Community Foundation Awarded $10,500 from the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation for Philanthropy Summit

Today the Community Foundation for Loudoun and Northern Fauquier Counties announced that it is the recipient of a $10,500 grant from the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation. The Community Foundation is among five organizations receiving a total of $565,500 in new grant funding from the Foundation, designed to close excellence gaps and support college access for high-achieving students with financial need in the Northern Virginia region. The grants will enable over 1,400 students to access programs focused on providing high-quality academic experiences and college success initiatives. Funding from the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation will support the Community Foundation’s annual Philanthropy Summit program. This year’s Philanthropy Summit, titled “The Equity Continuum,” will explore the topic of equity in the context of the social determinants of health, education, and the criminal justice system. Nonprofit, government, and philanthropic leaders will gather for the Philanthropy Summit on October 17, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Loudoun County Public Schools administration building.  Jack Kent Cooke Foundation is among one of the Summit’s presenters, providing participants with a presentation on equity and education. “We’re proud to support the meaningful work of these organizations which are dedicated to closing excellence gaps,” said Seppy Basili, executive director of the Cooke Foundation. “These grants build on our nearly two decades of working alongside organizations focused on helping talented students without financial resources pursue postsecondary education.” Foundation research demonstrates that high-achieving students with financial need are less likely than their higher-income peers to continue performing in the top academic quartile. Your answers—and the information you need to make sure your answers are, or become, the correct answers—will lay the groundwork for an effective and efficient donor program leading to larger gifts from more people. This workshop also includes Aschermann’s “Ten Steps to a Successful Ask” exercise. Presenter Kurt Aschermann has almost 40 years of experience as a marketing and resource development professional. Before retirement he served as Chief Marketing and Development Officer for Boys & Girls Clubs of America, where he supervised a staff that managed BGCA’s fund raising and marketing operations nation-wide. There he created and implemented a fundraising strategy for the organization that saw combined Clubs and national headquarters revenue go from $350 million to $1.2 billion in a little over ten years. Celebrating 20 Years and New Location: Ribbon Cutting and Open House

On September 5, 2019 the Community Foundation celebrated the opening of its new location with a ribbon cutting, open house, and art show.  Joined by local elected officials, along with government, nonprofit, philanthropic, and business leaders, the Community Foundation honored the Claude Moore Charitable Foundation, for their generous support of the Community Foundation that made the move to the new location possible.  The move marks an important milestone for the Community Foundation, which also celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. “Today’s grand opening of this facility is a milestone for Loudoun County’s nonprofit community, because it will be a place for the nonprofit community to call their own, to notify every passerby on this road that Loudoun has a heart for the disadvantaged,” said Claude Moore Charitable Foundation Executive Director J. Hamilton Lambert.  “The elected officials here today, I believe every one of them recognizes that there are needs in Loudoun County, unmet needs, and I hope that there’s more focus on that from the elected officials than there has been in the past,” Lambert said.
