Do you know of these powerful paths to give? Giving Tuesday provides a timely reminder of the power of philanthropy and how it shapes our community. There is no better vehicle to champion your philanthropy than the Community Foundation for Loudoun and Northern Fauquier Counties when you’re thinking about long-term impact.

Take advantage of these savvy giving options to make a gift of impact.

Gift of Stock
Gifting appreciated stock (held for more than one year) is a smart gift option. You realize the tax benefits of the stock’s value, today—even though you paid less for the position in the past. Choose stock shares with the lowest cost basis or purchase price to gain the greatest benefit.

Remember, when you make a gift of stock to the Community Foundation, the value of up to 30% of your Adjusted Gross Income is tax deductible, making this form of giving and excellent choice. Gifts of stock can help you avoid future capital gains taxes and can be a technique to rebalance your portfolio.

Gift from Your IRA
If you’re 70 1/2 or older, you can make a gift to the Community Foundation, up to $100,000, rather than take a distribution from your Individual Retirement Plan*. Make your gift request direct to your IRA plan manager. As long as your gift is made directly from your IRA account from your plan manager to the Community Foundation, your IRA gift is not subject to federal or Virginia income tax.

That’s savvy giving.

Gift to Create Your Own Personalized Legacy Fund
With as little as $10,000, you can create—or add to—your own personalized legacy fund or foundation stewarded by the Community Foundation. You name the fund, determine its grantmaking mission, and stay involved as much as you’d like. We have a host of varied fund instruments to ensure your charitable vision serves as a legacy such as scholarship, designated, field of interest, and donor advised funds.*

Your Vision. Your Wish. We Grant it.

Gift to Friends of the Foundation
With a gift of $1,000 or more, Friends of the Foundation fuel our workshops for nonprofits, personalized training programs for nonprofit leaders, and our work with racial equity here at home.
